I am Thomas Mimi, interior designer. I have been working since 2011. I have been a project manager, freelancer at different companies. Then in 2017, I launched my own company Kaizo Studio. I am now based in Bourg-la-Reine.
I work as an interior designer and project manager in Paris and the Paris region. I handle housing projects for individuals.
What are your day-to-day challenges?
I work alone at Kaizo Studio. As you can imagine, there's a lot of work. So the biggest challenge is to optimise time-consuming tasks. My aim is to save a bit of time on everything.
Surveying in particular is a task that requires a lot of time and concentration. When I make an appointment with a customer, I like to be efficient. But taking measurements is a process that can take a long time. Sometimes I can forget a small measurement. This means I have to go back and correct the mistakes. This can be a considerable waste of time.
Why iMapper?
To be more efficient, I need to optimise my time. I've been working in the world of architecture since 2011, so I've tested a lot of tools for taking measurements. I've used the disto and the laser meter a lot. But when I set up my agency, I was looking for an effective, simple and affordable tool to free up time during my appointments.
There are solutions on the market, such as 3D scanners and other building surveying equipment, but they are very expensive and difficult to use.
Then I found the iMapper, which seemed to meet my expectations.
It's small, compact, lightweight and less expensive. And it meets my need for an accurate survey of a given area.
What was it like to take readings before iMapper?
The difficulty of the surveys depends on the building. It can be easy, but it can also be very time-consuming. When I have to take measurements in a building that's a bit crooked or old, I quickly lose track.
Working on my own, it's very easy to forget a small detail when taking a side view, in the diagonals... On more than one occasion, I've come back to the office and realised that I'm missing something. So I have to go back to the customer's premises to make sure I have the measurements I need to create an accurate plan.
Then there are the customers who have questions or want to chat during this process, which requires a great deal of rigour and concentration.
What's the situation now?
Now that I'm working with the iMapper portable scanner, it's much easier.
During a meeting with the customer, I arrive and set up the tripod. The iMapper does its job. All I have to do is move it from room to room.
Each scan takes between 4 and 5 minutes, which is very fast. The big difference is that I now have time to talk to the customer. It's a real change in the way I work!
And when I come back from the visit, I'm sure I have a fair and reliable plan.
So it makes the job a lot easier.
What would you say to companies to convince them to use iMapper?
If you've been using a laser or tape measure and have confidence in these tools, you can have confidence in the iMapper. The iMapper provides the same result but in a stand-alone way. It takes a measurement every 2-3 cm depending on the setting. It's very precise. And it prevents you from making any mistakes or forgetting to take measurements.
Now I can go to every sales meeting with less pressure. It gets the job done.
What are the financial benefits of iMapper?
Without the iMapper: an hour and a half on site, three to four hours in the office to go over the plan. And that's assuming that everything goes well and that there are no errors...
With the iMapper: three quarters of an hour to take measurements and an hour and a half to redraw in the office.
If you do the maths with my hourly rate, the difference is obvious. The iMapper is now completely integrated into my processes and there's no comparison.
In a nutshell?
Compact, lightweight, easy to use and very, very accurate.
